CARGO HOLDER INSPECTION: HYGIENE – WATERPROOF – SEALING
CUSTOMERS:
Cargo owners – especially agricultural products, foodstuffs, steel, fertilizer, etc.; charterers; logistics companies; P&I Clubs / insurers in case of claims related to wet damage or contamination
SURVEY OBJECTS:
Cargo holds and hatch covers: hold cleanliness / readiness to load, watertight integrity of hatch covers, and hold sealing after loading
LEGAL BASIS:
Surveyor competence accredited to ISO/IEC 17020 – VICAS 043 (FCC). Conclusions are based on actual carriage requirements, commonly including criteria such as “Grain Clean” and “Hospital Clean” (depending on cargo type and contractual terms)
SURVEY SERVICES:
1. Hold Cleanliness Survey: Direct inspection inside cargo holds to confirm no residues/dunnage/dust from previous voyages; no loose rust or scale that may contaminate cargo; holds are dry, free from unusual or chemical odors, and free from cross-contamination
2. Hatch Cover Watertight Integrity Test: Detection of gaps, cracks, or damaged packing by Hose Test (pressurized water spray to check leakage) or Ultrasonic Test (preferred): fast, accurate, pinpoints leakage locations, and does not wet the vessel
3. Hold Sealing Survey: Conducted after completion of loading. Sealing of hatch covers and access points using numbered seals

Step 4: Issuance of certificate/report
